The Northern Territory is an incredibly vast untamed desert, often called the Outback. There are unique rock formations, the most amazing one being Ayers Rock or Uluru, which is so large it can be seen from space.
In order to avoid the extreme heat, the Outback should be visited during spring and autumn. There are a few towns, but for the most part just huge open spaces.
