A picturesque sweep of coastline and long, sandy beaches backed
by high sand dunes are protected in this central Queensland
park.
To the north, rugged granite peaks, Mt Atherton and The Peaks,
rise above the sandy landscape.Coastal heath, open woodlands
and forests, paperbark swamps, mangroves and rainforest-fringed
creeks add to this park’s wonderful natural variety.
Tidal wetlands are protected in the southern end of the park around
Sandy Point. Endangered little terns nest in this part
of the park and vulnerable beach stone-curlews have
also been seen.
